William Carrigan Obituary

William Leo Carrigan, 78, passed away after a brief illness.

“Bill” leaves his wife of 50 years, Frances C. (Hehir) Carrigan; a daughter Elizabeth (Becca) of Mansfield, Mass., a son Michael (Kelsey) of New Hampton, N.H., and six grandchildren; Madison, Basil, Reese, Josephine, Lucas and Louisa; along with a brother Robert Carrigan, a brother Thomas (Susan) Carrigan, sister-in-law Sally (David) St. John and sister-in-law Martha (Robert) Wally; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James earlier in 2025.

Bill was born in Worcester, MA, to the late James and Frances (O’Sheasy) Carrigan. He was a talented athlete and attended Assumption Prep on scholarship.

He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business management at his beloved U-Mass Amherst where he was a proud member of the Zeta Nu fraternity.

He was drafted and served in the Vietnam war for 13 months where he was a member of the United States Army.

He received a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy at Boston University.

Bill worked for the Worcester Public Schools and later the VNA. He was a dedicated practitioner who was particularly fond of helping children.

Bill enjoyed playing tennis, golf and cross country skiing. He was an avid Patriots fan and he supported his children’s athletic events every chance he could. Bill loved animals and was always content when his dog Rafie was by his side. Bill will be missed for his quick wit and story telling abilities. He worked tirelessly for his family, a devoted family man and relished in his role as Pa to his wonderful grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church in Southborough, Mass. There will be a visiting hour at the church prior to the Mass, at 10 a.m.
