Susan (Schneider) McCune

Susan (Schneider) McCune, 78, of Worcester, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024. Her husband of 52 years, Jay E. McCune passed away in January, 2024.

Susan was born in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas and Alice (Brooks) Schneider. She graduated from Wheaton High School.

After marrying, Sue and Jay moved to Massachusetts. They lived in Webster, Cherry Valley, and most recently Worcester. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Charlton.

Sue worked in retail, and she was particularly passionate about volunteering. She regularly participated in the WGBH fundraising phone bank. She helped with activities at the Worcester Public Library and Worcester Art Museum. She volunteered with other church and community groups, as well as at various folk festivals she and Jay would attend, where they enjoyed camping and playing the autoharp and washboard, respectively.

Sue was active in the Cursillo Movement of the Diocese of Worcester, where she made and maintained many of her friendships. Some of the close friends she leaves include Denise and David Richards, Tanya Connor, RuthAnn and Richard Davis, Michael and Judy Reed, and Elaine Bissell.

A calling hour will take place Tuesday, January 7, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton, followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
