Sister Patricia O'Donnell, SNDdeN

Sister Patricia O’Donnell, 87, died Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester.

She was born in Salem, daughter of George P. and Theresa (Durkin) O’Donnell. She graduated from Salem High School and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1956.  Sister earned her associate’s degree in Mental Health Technology at Northern Essex Community College in 1983 and her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Salem State College in 1985.

Sister Patricia worked as a portress, greeting those visiting the SND facilities in Waltham, Ipswich and Tyngsborough. She then became the retreat director for the Loretto House in Ipswich. Sister worked as the patient advocate for the Notre Dame du Lac in Worcester for many years.

She leaves her sister Marie Burke; her sister-in-law Priscilla O’Donnell, several generations of nieces and nephews and her sisters in religion the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was predeceased by her brother, George O’Donnell, brother-in-law William Burke and niece Maureen Burke.

Sister Patricia’s funeral will be held Friday, December 22, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1p.m., sharing of memories at 1:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery.
