Sister Marylyn O’Connor, 77, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Sister Marylyn was born in Springfield, daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Patterson) O’Connor. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Springfield and Emmanuel College in Boston.
After graduating from high school in 1964, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was known for many years as Sister Catherine Thomas.
Sister Marylyn was a beloved elementary school teacher for 38 years;13 years at the St. Rose School in Newtown, Conn. and then for 25 years at the Holy Name School in Chicopee, Mass.
Sister leaves her brother, Thomas O’Connor of Agawam, her sister Catherine Melbourne of Vero Beach, Fla., nieces and nephews, including Susan and Kathleen Melbourne, and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Patricia M. Sikorski and her niece Laurie Melbourne.
Sister Marylyn’s funeral will be held Tuesday, November 22 in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by a sharing of memories at 1:30, and a Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
