Sister Mary O'Connell, SNDdeN

Sister Mary O’Connell, SNDdeN, 92, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester.

Sister Mary was born in Boston, Claire Frances, daughter of Jerome C. and Nora J. (Coyne) O’Connell.

She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1950. She graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston with a BA in History and earned her MA in Education from Salem State College. She was also known in her religious life as Sister Mary St. Jerome.

Sister Mary was a teacher at Notre Dame affiliated schools including St. Augustine, Andover; St. Mary’s, Lawrence; St. Augustine, South Boston; St. Mary, Lynn; Our Lady of the Angels, Worcester; Presentation, Brighton; St. Mary’s, Beverly; Blessed Sacrament, Cambridge and St. Anthony’s, Somerville.

Sister leaves her siblings, Charles O’Connell and Elizabeth A. Collins and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was predeceased by her siblings, Katherine, Marie, Louise, Sr. Anne, SND, Sr. Nora, SND, William, John, Helen and Daniel.

Sister Mary’s funeral will be held Monday, October 28, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by Sharing of Memories at 1:30 p.m. and a Mass at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery, Worcester.
