Sister Jean Sullivan, 86, of Worcester, died Saturday August 31, 2024 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Sister Jean was born Rosemary Sullivan in Dorchester, daughter of William T. and Mary M. (McBrine) Sullivan.
She graduated from Cardinal Cushing Central High School and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1957. She earned her A.B. in Education/History from Emmanuel College and her Montessori Certification from Cornell University, NY.
Sister was a teacher at Notre Dame affiliated schools from 1960 to 1974, including St. James School, Salem; Annunciation School, Danvers; and St. Mark’s School, Dorchester.
In 1974, Sister Jean co-founded Julie's Family Learning Program in South Boston where she worked in administration and as a teacher for over 35 years.
Sister Jean leaves her brothers, William R. Sullivan and his wife Kathy of Marshfield, and Paul R. Sullivan and his wife Rosemary of Cohasset; her brother-in-law Michael O’Connor; nieces and nephews; and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean F. O’Connor.
Sister Jean’s funeral will be held Friday, September 6, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by Sharing of Memories at 1:30 p.m. and a Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery, Worcester.
