Sister Janet Cahill, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 93, died Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester.
She was born in Johnstown, Penn., a daughter of James J. and Adele McCall Cahill. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, Penn. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1952 and took the name Sister James Adele Cahill in honor of her parents. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Trinity University.
Sister Janet taught elementary school - mostly first, second, and third grades - in Notre Dame affiliated schools in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, New York and South Carolina including St. Jerome School in Hyattsville, Md. and St. Thomas Moore School in Decatur, Ga. An important part of her ministry was helping children develop their reading skills and preparing them to receive their first communion.
She was predeceased by her sister, Rosanne Rozmus, her twin brother James Cahill, and brother John Cahill.
Sister Janet leaves behind nieces and nephews; and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Sister Janet’s funeral will be held Thursday, February 19, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with visitation at 1 p.m. followed by sharing of memories at 1:30 p.m. and a Mass at 2 p.m. Burial will be the following week in Ilchester Cemetery in Elliott City, Maryland.
