Sister Helen Singleton, SNDdeN

Sister Helen Singleton, 93, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

Sister Helen was born Jean T. Singleton in Manchester, daughter of John T. and Helen (Walsh) Singleton. She was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Beverly and Emmanuel College in Boston.

After graduating from high school in 1947, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was known for many years as Sister Helen St. Thomas.

Sister Helen was an elementary and middle school teacher for 36 years at Catholic schools including St. Teresa School in Providence, St. James School in Salem, St. Mary School in Lynn, Our Lady Presentation School in Brighton, Blessed Sacrament School in Cambridge, St. Bartholomew School in Needham, Our Lady School in North Waltham, and St. Augustine School in Lawrence.

After retiring from the classroom, she continued to minister to her fellow sisters and volunteer at Mother St. Joseph House in Wakefield. She would cook and bake for sisters as they recovered from hospitalization.

Sister leaves two nephews, nieces, and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary H. Singleton, Anne E. Barnes, Constance J. Singleton and her brothers, John T. Singleton and Robert F. Singleton.

Sister Helen’s funeral will be held Thursday, December 15, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by a sharing of memories at 1:30, and a Mass at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery.
