Sister Elizabeth Louise Michaels, 98, died Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester.
She was born in Brighton, daughter of Frederick J. and Elizabeth (Theis) Michaels and given the name Jeanette Louise. She graduated from Boston Latin School and from Emmauel College with a B.A. in Mathematics. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1946. Sister went on to receive her Masters Degree in Mathematics at Boston University and her PhD in Mathematics at University of Notre Dame.
Sister Elizabeth taught Math at St. Mary High School, Waltham and at Emmanuel College where she was a much-loved member of the faculty for 40 years. She served in congregational leadership, both in Boston and in Rome.
She leaves her niece, Elaine Doolittle and her husband David, her grandniece Hillary Doolittle Cicerone and her husband Michael; and her sisters in religion the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie H. Wilson and her brother, Fred J. Michaels.
Sister Elizabeth’s funeral will be held Saturday, December 16, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a calling hour at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery.
