Sister Elizabeth McLaughlin SNDdeN

Sister Elizabeth McLaughlin of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 88, died Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester.

She was born in Providence, R.I., daughter of Edward F. and Elizabeth (Hindle) McLaughlin. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1955. She graduated from Emmanuel College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Education and earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Sister Elizabeth taught in several Notre Dame affiliated schools in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts including St. Aedan School, New Haven; Sacred Heart School, Springfield; St. Ann School, Cranston; St. Teresa High School, Providence; and St. Thomas Aquinas High School, New Britain.  After her teaching ministry, Sister shifted to spiritual guidance as Director of Novices for her Province in West Haven; retreat director at Our Lady of Peace Spiritual Life Center in Narragansett and spiritual director at the Hartford Archdiocesan Spiritual Life Center in Bloomfield.  She also served on the leadership team of the Sisters of Notre Dame Conn. Province, and the pastoral staff at St. Thomas More Parish in Narragansett. 

Sister Elizabeth leaves nieces, nephews, and her sisters in religion the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Ellen McLaughlin and Kathleen Chopoorian, and her brother Edward F. McLaughlin.

Sister Elizabeth’s funeral will be held Tuesday, September 2, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by sharing of memories at 1:30 p.m. and a Mass at 2 p.m.  The burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery. This is a postponement from the originally scheduled service.
