Sister Bernadette Turgeon of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 85, died Sunday, August 24, 2025 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester.
She was born Sally May Turgeon in Beverly, daughter of Ernest G. and Irene (LeBrun) Turgeon. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1957. She graduated from Emmanuel College with a bachelor’s degree in Science/Biology/Chemistry /Physics and from St. Michael’s College with a master’s degree in Religious Education. She was also known as Sister Bernadette St. George.
Sister Bernadette taught in several Notre Dame affiliated schools including the St. Mark School, Dorchester, St. Augustine School, South Boston, St. Mary School, Lynn, St. James School, Salem and the St. John School, North Beverly. After teaching for several years, Sister became the High School Religious Education Specialist and then the Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Manchester, NH. Sister spent 16 years volunteering summers at Camp Bernadette, the Diocesan Camp for girls.
Sister Bernadette leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Nancy Turgeon of Newfield, ME and her sisters in religion the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was predeceased by her sister, Sister Irene Turgeon, SNDdeN.
Sister Bernadette’s funeral will be held Monday September 15, in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, with a visitation period at 1 p.m. followed by sharing of memories at 1:30 p.m. and a Mass at 2 p.m. The burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery.
