Sean Tivnan, 55, of Millbury and formerly of Auburn, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Sean leaves his son, Liam Tivnan; his sister Siobhan Tivnan of Co. Galway, Ireland; his brother Thomas Tivnan and his wife Anna-Marie Crowhurst of Somerset, United Kingdom; and a niece, Elizabeth LaMay of Scituate and her husband Bradley Turchi. He was predeceased by his father, the former Massachusetts State Representative Robert X. Tivnan and his mother, Marie (Hamel) Tivnan.
He also leaves his cousins Belinda Dennis, Jeff Dennis and his wife Kathy Connors, Patti and Roger Fairbanks, plus many other relatives and dear friends, particularly Liam's mother Cheryl Minkema and her husband Stewart Nelson.
Sean was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, attended Auburn High School where he excelled academically and athletically – particularly at soccer, which he later played at Brandeis University.
After college, Sean worked in bartending and hospitality managerial roles in the Philadelphia area. Moving back to Worcester County, he worked for Brew City, O’Connor’s and, most recently, Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Sean was deeply interested in politics and sports, had an encyclopedic knowledge of a dizzying number of subjects and was passionate (and opinionated!) about the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics. But he particularly enjoyed spending time with Liam, especially in their frequent trips to Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Sean’s family will celebrate his life on Thursday, September 18, at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. There will be a calling hour beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a sharing of memories of Sean at 6 p.m. A later burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sean's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association https://diabetes.org/.
