Robert W. Sainsbury

Robert W. Sainsbury, 93, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 23, 2024 in St. Mary Healthcare Center, Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kathleen (Alavosus) Sainsbury.

Bob was born in Norwood, Mass. to Sylvester and Ruth (Estey) Sainsbury and grew up mostly in Canaan, N.H. After graduating High School, Bob joined the US Air Force. As a veteran he was very proud of his service. After his service Bob took a job with Exxon based in Boston. After two years the company wanted him to run a brand-new gas station in Worcester.

Bob was a very popular and respected business owner. He owned Sainsbury & O’Connell Automotive Diagnostics Service for 63 years and earned many lifelong friends and customers who instantly became friends.

Bob was a longtime member of Living Word Church (and formerly Assembly of God) in Worcester. As a Christian, Bob loved his Lord and Savior. At the church he served as a deacon and was a head usher for many years.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Margaret Sainsbury, his brother John Sainsbury and his sister Jean Hamilton.

Along with his wife Kathy, Bob leaves his brother Dr. Richard Sainsbury of N.H.; his brother-in-law Richard Hamilton of Fla.; daughter, Cynthia Glynn and her husband John of Brockton; sons, William Sainsbury and James Sainsbury of Florida; as well as daughters, Kathi Curtis and her husband Greg of Spencer, Lorianne Sainsbury-Wong and her husband Wilkins, and Kari Ellison of Worcester; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family would like to thank those at St. Mary Healthcare Center who took such loving care of Robert while he was there.

The funeral will take place Wednesday, December 4, with a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. in Living Word Church, 30 Tyler Prentice Rd., Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private.
