Richard Collamore Obituary

Richard Francis Collamore, 86, of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully at home on Thursday July 11th surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was a devoted husband to his wife Anne T. (Dunphy) Collamore and a loving father to his five children John P. Collamore and his wife Jean of Worcester, Nancy A. Guiney and her husband Kevin of Holden, Mary F. Riordan and her husband Paul of Shrewsbury, Alicia M. Arnott and her husband Bruce (deceased) of Kishorn, Scotland, and Richard F. Collamore Jr. and his wife Ellen of Rehoboth. He was a cherished grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He leaves his sister Mary Attridge and her husband William of CT. He was predeceased by his parents John and Edna Collamore of Shrewsbury, and his brother James Collamore and wife Ann of Georgetown, MA.

 Richard graduated from Shrewsbury High School where he lettered in football and basketball. He then attended Columbia University on a scholarship where he played football, graduated from Clark University, and attained his Master’s Degree from Anna Maria College.

Richard dedicated his life work to the protection of children for 38 years at the Department of Children and Families. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fly fishing and his time on the Brewster flats with his family.

Richard’s high school quote was “silence is a virtue”. He will be remembered for his peaceful nature.

Calling hours will be private. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester, on Tuesday, July 16th at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Massachusetts Audubon Society.
