Paul H. Mahoney Obituary
Paul H. “Jake” Mahoney, 95, of Worcester, died Wednesday, December 27, 2023 after a period of declining health.
His wife of 57 years, Gail E. (Lambton) Mahoney, passed away in 2018.
He leaves three children, State Rep. John J. Mahoney and his wife Erin of Worcester, Ann Marie Quinn of Worcester, and Steven Mahoney and his wife Brianne of Newtonville; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, Caroline and Liam Mahoney, Kevin and Owen Quinn, and Lucas and Hallie Mahoney. His brother, Rev. Joseph P. Mahoney, died in 2014.
Jake was born in Worcester, son of Joseph P. and Delia (Lynsky) Mahoney and lived his whole life in the Greendale neighborhood of Worcester. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, then on Temple St. in Worcester.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. He was a passenger baggage handler for several years for the former Boston & Albany Railroad.
Jake was the quintessential Worcester guy. He had countless friends and enjoyed every corner of the city. He was a deep sports enthusiast following closely the score of every popular athletic contest. He considered horses to be some of the best athletes on earth. He was a former member of Pleasant Valley Golf Club in Sutton.
Jake’s family wishes to thank the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing Center where he received skilled and compassionate care for the last few years.
Funeral services will be private.
The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
