Nancy J. Tivenan, 72, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 25th in the arms of her loving husband Eric D. Wells, after a courageous six-month battle with cancer.
Born in Worcester, the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Nosel) Tivenan, Nancy graduated from Burncoat High School in 1970. After receiving a B.A. in Anthropology from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, in 1975, she attended the Worcester Art Museum School. She moved to Boston for two years, and then returned to Worcester, where she was a graphic artist at Woodbury & Co. She later worked at E.F. Hutton, spent more than a decade in the development department of the American Antiquarian Society and 24 years as a Senior Administrative Assistant at Hanover Insurance, retiring in 2016.
Nancy and Eric were married in 2001. One of the founders of the Worcester St. Patrick’s Parade, she served as its treasurer for many years. Nancy was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Worcester Foothills Theater Company and the Centrum. An opera aficionado, she and her husband attended performances throughout the Northeast.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her brother, Edward Tivnan and his wife Marilyn Bethany of Malden Bridge, NY, nieces Maisie and Nell Tivnan and their families, along with stepsons Eric II and Giles Wells and their families.
Burial in Rural Cemetery will be private. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements. A celebration of her life will be announced in the coming weeks. Memorial donations may be made to Greater Worcester Opera, 330 Lancaster St., West Boylston, MA 01583.
