Anne M. “Nancy” (Haran) Powers, 90, died Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at home.
Her husband of 62 years, Paul J. Powers, passed away in 2018.
Nancy is survived by her children, John P. (Sandra), Mary T. Cleary (John), James E. Powers, Joseph P. Powers, all of Worcester, Michael F. Powers (Christine) of Paxton, and Thomas M. Powers of Nashua, N.H.; her sister-in-law Kathleen E. Haran of Worcester; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Paul J. Powers Jr. in 1998, her grandson James A. Powers in 2015, her brother Robert J. Haran in 2022, and her sister Sheila Clary earlier this month.
Nancy was born in Worcester, the daughter of Mary E. (Williams) Haran and James E. Haran.
Nancy was a graduate of St. Stephen’s High School in Worcester, the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Worcester State University. She taught in the Worcester Public Schools for 32 years.
Nancy was a member of Our Lady of Providence Parish at St. Bernard’s Church in Worcester and Christ the King Parish in Mashpee. She was a former CCD teacher and parish council member at St. Joan of Arc Parish, and a Lady Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was a member of the Green Hill Park Coalition, Preservation Worcester, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Guild of Our Lady of Providence.
Calling hours are Saturday, May 25, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
