Michael John Donahue, 63, of Chicago, Illinois was unexpectedly lost on June 21, 2025.
The first-born child of John Joseph and Judith Nolan Donahue, Michael was born on November 2, 1961 in Worcester, Massachusetts. His early life was marked by world travel due to his father’s career in the Army and this wanderlust continued throughout his life. He graduated from the University of Kentucky, began his career in finance in Lexington, followed by work in Chicago, London, Australia, and Singapore as a trader. A natural athlete, he played tennis at the University of Kentucky and trained for the 1988 US Olympic team as a velodrome bicycle rider in Colorado Springs.
An avid reader and lifelong learner, friends marveled at his knowledge of current events, sports, science, and even the most obscure topics. Nothing made him happier than engaging in a spirited discussion or debate on just about any topic, playing one of his 24 guitars, or teaching about the subtle differences in regional Thai cuisines as he took you to his favorite restaurants.
Michael’s sudden passing comes as a shock to his friends, his family, and the love of his life, Kimberly Wagner, for whom he had a life-long passion and commitment. Mike was preceded in death by his father, John J. Donahue, his sister, Kathleen Jones, and his aunt, Patricia Foley. He is survived by his mother, Judith, brother, Tim, sister-in-law, Christine, brother-in-law, Leonard Jones, nephews, Tim Jones, Lee Jones, and Teddy Donahue, uncle and aunt Joseph and Marion Donahue, many cousins, his cat, Milly, and the love of his life, Kimberly Wagner.
Michael lived a vibrant, full life and was taken far too soon. He is remembered as one of the most interesting people his family and friends have ever known and memories of him will endure and bring happiness.
