Mary E. (Murphy) Shagro

Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Shagro, 92, of Worcester, died Monday, April 14, 2025, at home with family by her side. Her husband, John D. Shagro, died in 1991.

She leaves four daughters, Patricia A. Madore and her husband Donald of Worcester, Mary M. Allard of Worcester, Katherine M. Tally and her husband Philip of Kingston, R.I., and Margaret F. Shagro of Worcester; six grandchildren, Kelly, Erin, Chucky, Katherine, Owen and Trevor; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Ellie, Grace, Thea, and Nolan; a sister, Jane Pelkey, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her sons James J. Shagro and John D. Shagro; and her siblings, James, Shirley, Jean, William, John (Jack) and Joseph.

Mary Lou, as she was affectionately referred to, was born in Worcester to James J. and Lena G. (Duclos) Murphy and lived there all her life. She graduated from the former St. Peter’s High School. She worked for Norton Company before she married. She and John raised their six children on Litchfield St. and it has been a loving home now to four generations of their family.

The funeral will be Tuesday, April 22, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours.
