Mary K. (Mountain) Cutter of Holden and formerly Boylston, died Sunday August 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband David T. Cutter. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Elwin and Christine (Walsh) Mountain.
Mary graduated from Ascension High School in 1963 and went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s teaching degrees from Worcester State College. A beloved first grade teacher who inspired and nurtured generations of students for 34 years, Mary was known for her warmth, patience, and unwavering dedication. She had a gift for making every child feel seen, valued, and capable. Her classroom was a place of joy, discovery, and kindness, where the foundations of learning and confidence were built. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her gentle wisdom and generous heart.
Mary was a legend at bargain hunting, baking chocolate chip cookies and carrot cakes, and spoiling her grandchildren. She adored them and filled their lives with affection, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Whether baking their favorite treats, reading stories, or through countless hours of babysitting, she always remembered the little things, and found joy in every shared moment. She gave of herself fully and selflessly. Her love knew no limits, and her presence will be profoundly missed.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Pirani of Holden and Sarah Cutter (John Patraitis) of Sutton, her son, Andrew Cutter (Carla) of Boylston; her brothers John Mountain of Maine and Michael Mountain (Maryellen) of Brewster and her sister, Margaret Mahoney (Patrick) of Worcester; her grandchildren, Jack and Katherine Patraitis of Sutton and Isabela and Olivia Pirani of Holden, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass for Mary on Tuesday, September 9th, at 11:30 am in St. Mary of the Hills, 630 Cross St., Boylston.
