Margaret M. (Handfield) Titus, 86, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at home, in the company of her family, after an illness.
Peg leaves her husband of 60 years, Edwin S. Titus; two sons, Mark A. Titus of Worcester, and Jeffrey S. Titus and his wife Michelle of Sudbury; a daughter, Ellen M. Shor and her husband Glen of Needham; six grandchildren, Matthew Titus, Jacob, Carter and William Titus, and Lila and Benjamin Shor; a brother, John F. Handfield Jr. of Duxbury; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Titus of West Boylston; and many nieces and nephews.
Peg was born in Worcester, daughter of John F. and Margaret T. (O’Loughlin) Handfield, and lived in Worcester all her life.
She was a 1954 graduate of the former Classical High School. After graduating from Worcester State Teachers College in 1958, she became a teacher at Dix Street School in Worcester, where she met her husband, Ed.
Peg left teaching to raise her family. She later earned a master’s degree and returned to education as a librarian for many years at the Boylston Elementary School, retiring in 2001.
Peg was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church where she also taught religious education. She enjoyed family vacations and was an avid reader. She was devoted to her husband, children, and especially her grandchildren, with whom she shared her love of books and learning. She and her husband, Ed, loved traveling to cheer on their grandchildren at athletic events across all seasons. Her family cherished her for her warmth, kindness and selflessness.
Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 29, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 30, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
