M. Elayne Spooner Obituary

M. Elayne (Young) Spooner of West Boylston, MA, died July 22, 2024. She was born in Fitchburg, MA on May 2, 1926, to Ralph H. and Cecelia P. (Mahoney) Young of Leominster, MA. She graduated from Leominster High School in 1944 after which, she worked for the Gas and Light Office and later, the Wachusett Electric Company. In 1950 Elayne married Norton C. Spooner of Fitchburg. The couple and their young children moved to West Boylston, MA in 1953 where she lived for 70 years. It was there that they met and enjoyed a host of lifelong friends. After the death of her husband, in 1976, Elayne worked, for several years, at the Jamesbury Corporation in Worcester as a receptionist and switchboard operator.

Elayne was one of a kind. She was straight forward, compassionate and possessed a great sense of humor. Elayne was artistic and creative and had a flair for fashion and décor. She so enjoyed her circle of friends and family and entertained often at her home in West Boylston where many fond memories were made. These memories included neighborhood cocktail parties, trips to various beaches, dances at the Wachusett Country Club, family celebrations and of course, martinis at The Manor. Elayne loved her family immensely and was a devoted friend as well. She will be greatly missed.

Elayne is survived by three sons, Craig (Stacy) of Draper, UT, Kevin of Albuquerque, NM, Todd (Elizabeth) of Huntington, MA and a daughter-in-law, Tamara Spooner of Rio Rancho, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Whitney Aikens (Tyler) of Salt Lake City, UT, Kendra Wojczynski (David) of Nashville, TN, Zachary Spooner of Huntington, MA, Abby Spooner (Lane) of Northampton, MA and Sam Spooner of Rio Rancho, NM. She leaves a niece, four nephews, several cousins and close friends, all beloved.

Elayne was predeceased by her husband, Norton C. Spooner, her sister Barbara Ferguson, her brother Herbert E. Young and his wife Agnes of Leominster, MA.

At Elayne’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being held by Athy Memorial Home, Worcester, MA. Services will be private for the family.
