Louise T. (Wood) Lekas, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Tatnuck Park in Worcester.
Her husband of 53 years, Theodore P. “Ted” Lekas, died in 2007. Daniel J. Lekas, her oldest son, passed away in 2020.
Louise leaves a son Ted Lekas and his wife Joanne; a daughter Katherine M. Putnam; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Callie, David, Thea and Samuel; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Bryce, Jack, Tait and Elaine.
Louise was born in Worcester, daughter of James E. and Louise T. (Bogle) Wood. She lived in Worcester all her life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She relished all of their accomplishments and achievements and would readily share them with anyone who asked about her family.
She graduated from Worcester State University and later earned a master’s degree in Speech Pathology, also from Worcester State. As a speech therapist in Worcester Public Schools for more than 20 years, Louise helped many children throughout her career, some of whom continued to approach her over the years to offer thanks for their work together.
Above all, Louise appreciated spending time with family and friends. She also loved to shop and read daily newspapers cover-to-cover, two pleasures in particular that were put on hold in recent months. After reuniting with the dearly loved family members who predeceased her, she will surely try to renew both activities in some capacity. She was a great conversationalist as well. Louise will be deeply missed.
The family also wants to thank Jewish Healthcare Hospice for the personal care and comfort they offered Louise during her transition and peaceful passing.
Louise’s family will welcome relatives and friends Thursday, June 5, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
