Kenneth P. Powers, 61, Webster, MA, departed this earth on July 10, 2023. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Geraldine (McCarthy) Powers. He adored his mother from whom he got his compassion. He was born at the Camp Zama Army Base in Zama, Japan in 1961. He went to Woodbridge Senior High School, Woodbridge, VA, and then went on to study at Worcester State. He was a prolific and passionate writer and worked for a number of newspapers including the Stonebridge Press.
Ken leaves his brothers Michael (Colleen Kelly) of Dumfries, Va. and Dennis (Mary Paier) of West Springfield, MA. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Brian, Connor, Neil, Megan, Sean, Jennifer and Laura. Ken was great at meeting and keeping friends throughout his lifetime, from childhood, schooling and through work. He will be missed by all including his friend Bill of sixteen years. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people and inspiring them to make the most of life through faith, family, and fellowship.
Ken was fun loving and the king of one liners. He loved writing about people, their accomplishments, and goals. He loved sports. His favorite teams were the Washington Redskins, N. E. Patriots and Baltimore Orioles (and the Red Sox when they were not playing the Orioles). He was very patriotic. His recent trip to California was the highlight of the year. He loved telling stories and spending time with those he loved. He is already sorely missed.
Calling hours are Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A prayer service will follow at 4 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
