Kathleen M. Shea, 75, of Shrewsbury, died, January 18 with family beside her at the Knollwood Nursing Center. She fought a valiant battle with cancer.
Kathy was born in Worcester and grew up on Vernon Hill, daughter of the late Everett J. “Fat” and M. Ursula (Duffy) Shea. She has lived in Shrewsbury more than 40 years.
Kathy was predeceased by her sisters Juliann and Deborah A. Shea, and her brother John Michael Shea.
Kathy was a graduate of the former Marian High School in Worcester. She worked for the New England Telephone Company/ Verizon for 39 years, retiring in 2006.
Kathy enjoyed spending summers at Hampton Beach with many cousins and time at South Dennis on Cape Cod. She was an avid follower of New England sports teams, particularly the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. She was devoted to her family, her faith and her Irish heritage.
She was a member of Saint Mary of the Hills Church in Boylston and often attended Mass at Saint John’s Church in Worcester.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her countless cousins and many dear friends.
There will be a calling hour on Friday, January 31, at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Burial at St. John’s Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604. The family is deeply appreciative to the careteams at Hartford Hospital, and Knollwood Nursing Center.
The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
