Judith Hughes Obituary

Judith Ann (Izzio) Hughes, 70, of Worcester and formerly of Rochester, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, after a two-year battle with liver cancer..

Judy leaves her husband of 41 years Stephen J. Hughes; her three sons, Michael Hughes of Rochester, Brendan Hughes of Worcester, and Adam Hughes and his wife Jennifer of Laurel, Md.; a granddaughter Hazel; siblings, Anthony Izzio (Lee), Beverly Bloom (Roger), and Brian Izzio (Tricia); several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Izzio.

Judy was born in West Seneca, NY, the daughter of Anthony R. and Julie (Bruno) Izzio. She graduated from West Seneca West High School and Alfred University. She and Steve lived in Rochester for forty-two years, raising their three boys there, and moved to Worcester in 2014.

Judy began her career in Rochester as a buyer for McCurdy’s and retired as a manager for Chico’s in 2022. In between she took a 25-year hiatus to raise her family, volunteering regularly as, among many things, President of the Eastridge PTA, Parent Liaison for Key Club, and as a fundraiser for the Boy Scouts.

Throughout her life she brought people together socially, whether through her birthday celebration dinners or hosting parties. She never hesitated to send Steve out on a late-night trip to Wegmans for provisions.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 15 St. Mary’s Pl., Rochester NY, 14607 at 10 AM on February 8, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
