Joseph P. Shea

Joseph P. Shea passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on May 30, 2023 at his home in Worcester, MA. He was born on July 8, 1929 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of John and Hannah (Barry) Shea, both natives of Dingle, Ireland.

Joe attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from St. John’s High School, both in Worcester. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

Joe spent many years working for the New England Telephone & Telegraph company, first as a lineman and later as a construction supervisor. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts and coaching little league baseball teams. He was also an avid golfer and spent many a day on the links. He was a long-time devout member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Worcester.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Killelea) Shea, his parents John and Hannah Shea, as well as his brothers John, Bernard, and Jeremiah, and his sisters Mary and Ann.

He is survived by his children Catherine, Kerry, Stephen, and Joseph, his grandchildren, Alexey, Patrick, Katherine, and Maura, a great-granddaughter, Margot, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Funeral Mass for Joseph P. Shea will take place on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Calling hours at Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. will precede the Funeral Mass. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
