Joseph Patrick Hoy Jr., 85, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at home.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Karen (Bajoris) Hoy; nieces and nephews Denise Dunn, Kelley Dunn, Mark Clifford, Nancy Lawrence, Joe Brewer, Alex Bajoris, and other great-nieces and nephews all of whom affectionately referred to him as JoJo.
He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Brewer; his brother, Kevin Hoy; nephews, Paul Clifford and Edward Brewer; and his great-nephew, Tyler Lawrence.
Joe was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph P. and Nona (Gabriel) Hoy. He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. He and Karen moved to Oxford in 1983.
Joe worked primarily as a truck driver for Marane Oil and Getty Oil. Although he retired from full-time work in 2012, he continued to drive for Foodliner until he was 80.
Joe loved sailing, spending time with his family, his many pet dogs, and spending summers on Stiles Lake with his nieces and nephews. He treated his nieces and nephews as his own, often welcoming them to stay with him and Karen in the summers or for extended periods. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral will be held on Monday, June 3, at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a calling hour at 11 a.m. and a service in the funeral home at noon. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
