John P. Dunphy, 78, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Born in Worcester to the late Maurice and Mary (Hennessey) Dunphy, John leaves his brother Rev. James R. Dunphy M.S. of Hartford, Conn.; his sister Anne T. Collamore and her husband Richard of Worcester; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Dorothy Dunphy of West Boylston. He was predeceased by his dear sister Mary and brother Donald.
John attended Assumption Prep and then onto Assumption College where he graduated with honors.
The next thirty-seven years found John at the Holy Cross College Library where he found his love of books. He also found his love for travel to Scotland and Ireland. Listening to classical music and opera Saturday mornings was one of his favorite pastimes. John will be greatly missed by all.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, January 12, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
