Jean M. (Finnegan) Reidy, 92, of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Knollwood Nursing Center.
Her husband David R. Reidy died in 1993. She leaves her son David R. Reidy and his wife Lorie of Worcester; her granddaughter Caitlin V. Reidy of Leominster; nieces and nephews. Her sister Rosemary Cipro passed away in 2017.
Jean was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Alice (Stooke) Finnegan. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School and the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to earn Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Rehabilitation from Assumption University.
Jean was a Registered Nurse on the staff of St. Vincent Hospital for more than 30 years. She was also an instructor in the hospital’s Nursing School for many years. She was the Director of Nursing at the hospital for several years. In the 1980s, she was named Associate Vice-President and later Senior Vice-President of the hospital. She was the Acting Administrator of the hospital from 1985 to 1987.
Jean completed her career as Clinical Director for HMA Behavioral Health in Worcester, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the St. Vincent Hospital School Nursing Alumni Assn. She was a member and President of the former Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses.
Jean’s family thanks the staff of Summit Elder Care and the nursing and medical staff at Knollwood Nursing Center for their skilled and compassionate attention to Jean.
The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 27, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
