Jane M. (Beringer) Hickey, 94, passed away peacefully on January 8th after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, a daughter of Mary A. (Deviny) and Frederick F. Beringer she was a resident of Northborough for over 50 years where she raised her family. Jane is predeceased by her husband of 62 years Charles H. Hickey, her sister Maureen B. Moir and sons-in-law Stephen Brouillard and Peter Neilly.
A graduate of the former Belmont Prep and North High Schools, Jane graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Worcester State College in 1952 after which she began a long teaching career in the Grafton, Whitinsville, Worcester and Northborough public schools. In younger years she was an accomplished sportswoman, an avid skier, golfer and tennis player. Her love and appreciation of art and horticulture began early with instruction at The Worcester Art Museum and Natural History Camp. Jane especially enjoyed family time and vacations in Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Cape Cod; and in later years European river cruises.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her greatest accomplishments are her children. She was very kind, compassionate and gentle, but firm. She leaves behind Chas. and husband Ray DiPietro of Key West and NYC; Jane Brouillard of Spencer, with whom she resided and was cared for lovingly for the past seven years, Maureen Neilly of Charlton Depot and Brewster, and Bernard and wife Christina of Southborough. She is also survived by grandchildren, Luke and Tara Brouillard and spouses Esteban Garcia and Ryan Jacobson, Meaghan Neilly Boucher and husband Steven, Devin and Aidan Neilly, Thea and Olivia Hickey and partners Jordan Young and Pat Bresnahan; along with her pride and joy, great grandchildren Finnegan Bresnahan and Petra Boucher. She also leaves her Golden Retriever Micah who was always by her side.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
