James Edward Blondin, 63, of Worcester, passed away on February 10, 2025 at his home, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family.
James was born in Worcester to the late John J. and Ruth I. (Carkin) Blondin. He was the youngest of four children in the Blondin household on Dix St., joining John, Joseph, and Jane. He was a 1980 graduate of Burncoat High School.
Jim made his living as an iron worker, appropriately, as he had an iron constitution and was as solid as they come. He was a longtime member of the Iron Workers Union, retiring in 2020. Throughout his career he worked on large construction projects and many well-known structures in Massachusetts including the iconic Zakim Bridge in Boston. Bravery and strength were requirements of many of the jobs he undertook, manipulating heavy materials and equipment, sometimes at great heights and through some of the challenges of New England weather. He was the right man for those jobs.
Jim spent most summers in the Green Harbor village of Marshfield, a tradition going back to his youth when his family did the same. He enjoyed setting out from the Green Harbor Marina by boat and fishing for flounder, bluefish, or mackerel. He also loved spending a night under the stars camping. But the thing most important to him in his life was spending time with his family.
He leaves his beloved wife of 27 years, Joyce M. (Lapierre) Blondin; two sons of whom he was very proud, John Blondin and Jay Blondin, both of Worcester; his two big brothers, John A. Blondin and Joseph G. Blondin, both of Green Harbor; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
His dear sister Jane E. Miller passed away in 2023.
There will be calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 28, at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A prayer service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701; or The Marshfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 1244, Marshfield, MA 02050.
