Hazel Fleming Obituary

Hazel Mae Fleming, 104, died peacefully, on Saturday, March 18 surrounded by family and caring staff of Notre Dame Long Term Care Center of Worcester, MA.

Hazel was born in Worcester on May 13, 1918, the daughter of the late Nora G. (Curtin) and Joseph P. Fleming.

Following graduation from high school, Hazel helped run her father’s tool company and later worked at the former Norton Company for 40 years, retiring as a supervisor in

1979.

Hazel was predeceased by her siblings Joseph, John and James Fleming, Mary Johnson, Grace Reidy and Edna Eager and is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Hazel was a strong, independent, hard-working woman and was very devoted to, and supportive of, her siblings and their families. She was truly the matriarch.

She was blessed with a sharp mind and incredibly good health and enjoyed being involved and included with friends and family and she stayed active well into her late nineties.

Hazel made many friends throughout her work life, at her parishes of Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King Church, volunteering at Pernet Family Health and during her years at Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living.

She received wonderful and compassionate care at NDLTCC in her last few years, for which her family is very grateful. All who came to know or care for Hazel quickly became aware of the wit and strong spirit of this little woman. Hazel would have turned 105 in May. May God now hold her in the palm of His hand.

Hazel‘s funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 24th, at 10:30 AM in the chapel of Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Athy Memorial Home is directing arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel‘s memory may be made to Pernet Family Health, 237 Millbury St., Worcester, MA 01610.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
