George H. Butler, 78 years of age, of Worcester, MA, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
George was born in Worcester, the son of Arthur and Virginia (Bombredi) Butler of Worcester. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and retired from a 37 year career with the Worcester Housing Authority. “Retirement” lasted for four days before accepting a part-time job delivering flowers for Flor-Al’s in Worcester, then eventually joining the staff of Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough, MA, where he worked for another 17 years until 2019.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Paula E. (Hoyen) Butler and his son Eric A. Butler, both of Worcester. He leaves a sister, Mary Linda Bloumis and her husband Charlie; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Armand Thienel, all of Worcester; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Anthony Butler, Maureen Butler, and Ronald Butler.
George was a committed and loving husband and father; loyal friend; and kind and generous neighbor. From assistant coaching Jesse Burkett Little League, youth soccer and basketball in the 90s to never missing one of his son’s theater productions through the present day, George derived immense pleasure from supporting his family. He cherished his times near and on the water, vacationing with family and friends on Cape Cod, competing in cribbage matches at the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury, MA, and working in his yard and garden.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John’s High School, The Saint John’s Fund, 378 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, www.stjohnshigh.org.
