Elizabeth “Bettyann” (Carroll) Chviruk, 68, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2026 at home.
She leaves her husband of 45 years, Daniel R. Chviruk; her children, Patrick Chviruk and his wife, Cathryn; Brendan Chviruk and his wife, Lauren; Meaghan Fontaine and her husband, Tim; and Timothy Chviruk and his wife, Meredith; her grandchildren, Vivienne, Henry and Colin; Julia, Lucas and Olivia; Maggie, Theo and Jack; and Anna and Eamon, all of Worcester; her brother Daniel Carroll, her brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends including her lifelong friend Debbie Turner and her husband Steve.
She is predeceased by her sister, Sheila Cunnion and her brother-in-law, Thomas Chviruk.
Bettyann was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Cornelius P. and Margaret (Sullivan) Carroll, and lived in Worcester all her life. She graduated from St. Peters Central Catholic High School. She was a member of the Worcester Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing class of ’78, and later earned her Bachelor of Science of Nursing degree from Fitchburg State University.
She worked as a registered nurse in Worcester for 45 years in the UMass-Memorial system, retiring in 2022. In the later part of her career, her focus was in postpartum care. She was an International Board Certified Lactation Specialist and was passionate about helping guide new mothers in their breastfeeding efforts. On numerous occasions Bettyann shared her expertise with family friends who were parents for the first time.
Retirement allowed for her to be even more involved as a loving Nana to her 11 grandchildren. She felt wonderfully blessed to be able to help care for them as much as she did. They meant the world to her.
Bettyann loved to travel with family and friends. She visited places such as Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, and Jamaica. For many summers, she and Danny would rent a house in Dennis Port, where they would welcome visits from their children and grandchildren and enjoy time together at the beach.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels held a special place in her heart, and for much of her life she had at least one four-legged companion at home, most recently Harley and Reilly, who returned an unconditional love back to her and were by her side till the end.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Thursday, July 16 at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. The family suggests that those who are able to attend the funeral may wear something in their favorite shade of blue.
As Bettyann was herself a kidney transplant recipient in 2017, in lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to New England Donor Services, 60 First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
