Edwin S. Titus, 97, of Tatnuck Park, formerly of Morningside Road, Worcester, died Saturday, February 22, 2025 at his home after an illness.
Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was deeply dedicated to his family, providing unwavering support to each generation. He was cherished for his warmth, integrity, and generous spirit.
His beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret M. (Handfield) Titus, died in 2023.
Ed leaves two sons, Mark A. Titus of Worcester, and Jeffrey S. Titus and his wife Michelle of Sudbury; a daughter, Ellen M. Shor and her husband Glen of Needham; six grandchildren, Matthew Titus, Jacob, Carter and William Titus, and Lila and Benjamin Shor; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Titus of West Boylston; a brother-in-law, John F. Handfield Jr. of Duxbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Everett and Ernest Titus.
Ed was born in Worcester in 1928, son of George P. and Sarah (Kanarian) Titus and lived in Worcester all his life.
After graduating from North High School, Ed served in the U.S. Army including a tour of duty in the Asia-Pacific region in the immediate post World War II years. After his military service, he returned to Worcester and began a life-long association with Worcester State Teachers College, now Worcester State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1951, and earned a master’s degree in 1954. He was a baseball player at the college and served as the school’s tennis coach from 1978 through 2003. He was enshrined in the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
Ed was an educator for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He spent most of his career in the Worcester Public Schools including 30 years as a Social Studies teacher at Forest Grove Middle School.
He was a longtime member of the former Worcester Tennis Club.

Calling hours are Friday, February 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, March 1, from the funeral home with the Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. The Mass will be livestreamed https://blessedsacrament.us . Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Edwin S. ’51, M.Ed. ’54 and Margaret M. (Handfield) ’58 Titus Scholarship at Worcester State University.
