Edward Mallaghan Obituary

Edward F. Mallaghan, 72, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Ed leaves his wife of 48 years, Suzanne M. (Smith) Mallaghan; a son, Rory P. Mallaghan and his long-time partner Laura A. Garbarino of Worcester; a daughter Brianne E. and her husband Robert P. Spellane of Worcester; grandsons, Chase and Drew Mallaghan; a granddaughter Annie Spellane; grandsons, Bobby, Michael and Patrick Spellane; a brother, John F. Mallaghan and his wife Becky of South Dennis, Mass.; a niece, several nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Karen A. Hodge in 2019.

Ed was born in Warwick, R.I., son of the late John F. and Mary E. (Stuckey) Mallaghan. He was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, where he proudly lettered in football, alongside Steve Furness of the famed Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Steel Curtain” defense.

He went on to receive both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Bentley University in Waltham.

Ed had a 30+ year career in the hospitality industry. He began at the original Piccadilly Pub in Westborough and was the long-time General Manager of the Northworks restaurant in Worcester, establishing relationships that would last a lifetime. He later became General Manager for many years of Ken’s Steakhouse in Framingham. After retiring from the world of restaurants, his love of the water and sailing matched him perfectly with the Regatta Point Sailing Program at Lake Quinsigamond where he worked part-time for several years.

Ed was an avid gym-goer and an active member of the Worcester Athletic Club. He was a masterful cook and an award-winning chef, and later in life, a skilled large-piece puzzle solver, carefully framing each puzzle along the way. He loved all the family dogs over the years, including his two labradoodles, Honey and Skye, who will be lost without their “meal ticket” and couch buddy. He was devoted to his family and adored his grandchildren, most proudly relishing in the role of being “Pops.”
