Dr. Mario Augusto Muñoz Llerena, 91, of Worcester, died on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.
He leaves his wife, Amparo B. Noriega de Muñoz; children, Miluzka V. Muñoz-Noriega and Herbert W. Donahue of Rutland, Vanessa Muñoz-Chesler and her husband Michael Chesler of Worcester, Dr. Amparo M. David and her husband William David of Shrewsbury, and Mario Muñoz Noriega and his wife Priscilla (Barros) Muñoz of Webster; grandchildren, Miluzka and Bryan Feagans, Franco Palma, Maria Alejandra Muñoz, Nicholas David, David Chesler, Sofia David, Mario Muñoz, Manuel Chesler and Victoria Muñoz; great-grandchildren Elena and Xander; siblings, Blanca, Cesar, Fernando, Haydee, Yolanda, Edmundo, Hernan and Teresa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mario was born in Arequipa, Peru to Justo Alberto Muñoz Caceres and Margarita Llerena Salinas de Muñoz. He graduated from the National Major University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He was the chief physician of the department of radiology, paramedic and training of the Instituto Peruano de Seguridad Social del Peru. He was a professor in the medical school at Saint Augustin University in Arequipa. He was the president of the Lions Club Yanahuara-Umacollo.
Mario loved spending time with his family, helping others in the community, gardening, harvesting vegetables, making and flying kites, going to the beach, family trips, and making jewelry as a hobby.
A funeral Mass for Mario will be celebrated Monday, October 30, at 3 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
