Doreen LaPlante Obituary

Doreen E. LaPlante died on April 1, 2024 at the age of 91. Her husband of 73 years and love of her life Roland LaPlante passed away on March 15, 2024. Their love story was one that you only see in the movies. Doreen had been struggling with Dementia and was recently being cared for by the staff at Christopher House. Roland went to see his Doreen every other day without fail. She truly died of a broken heart when he passed a few weeks ago. We know that he was at the gates of Heaven to greet her.

Doreen was predeceased by her sister Claudia Ramian and her brother Terry Brouillette, both of Worcester. She leaves her brother- in-law Robert Ramian of Worcester. Her daughter Paula (LaPlante) Doherty died in 1976 and her son Craig LaPlante died in 2020. Doreen leaves three granddaughters, Kelly (Doherty) Wharton who cared for her in her older years and her husband Derek, Lauren (LaPlante) Tripp and her husband Jeff, and Justine LaPlante. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren that she adored: Rylie, Kailin and Jack Wharton, McKayla, Hunter, and Cole Tripp, and Addison Wainwright; and her friends and neighbors Ralph and Buffy.

Doreen, was born in Thorndike, Mass., the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Stewart) Brouillette. She lived in Worcester before moving to Auburn in 1957.  She graduated from Commerce High School.  She worked for Sears & Roebuck Company in Auburn for 20 years before retiring in 1991. Doreen was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and its choir.

Doreen was a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital where she rocked and held newborn babies, a job she loved. She also sang in the Vernon Hill Chorus and enjoyed putting on shows for the elderly in the community.

She loved to travel and enjoyed yearly trips to Bermuda with her girlfriends as well as traveling with her husband and close friends. Doreen will be remembered for her beauty, class, style, kind heart and a smile that lit up every room she entered.

Her family would like to thank the staff on the Brookside Unit of the Christopher House for the amazing care and love they gave to Doreen over the past few years. She was so happy there and enjoyed singing, listening to music, arts and crafts, and walking with her roommate and best friend Donna.
