David J. Spillane, 64, of Worcester, died Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center.
David battled cancer and illness bravely with the help of his loyal friends Shane, Mark, Steve and Joe.
He leaves his sister, Joanne M. Simokonis and her husband John of Worcester, his brothers, James D. Spillane and his wife Patricia of Cape Coral, Fla., and Robert C. Spillane and his wife Maryann of Worcester; a stepsister, Karen E. Sammartino and her husband Joseph of Scituate, and a stepbrother John F. Spillane III of Worcester; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, that he loved dearly.
David was born in Worcester, son of the late James P. and Kathleen T. (Collins) Spillane. He was also predeceased by his stepfather John F. Spillane.
David completed his high school education through the Darby, Montana Job Corps program.
David served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years, including training and a tour of duty at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and a tour of duty in the Philippines.
He worked for various construction companies and was a bartender at Meservey’s Harding Rock Cafe.
David was a walking encyclopedia of information and statistics about the Boston area professional sports teams and players that he followed so closely. He was also a voracious reader.
There will be a funeral Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
