Cleida Roy Obituary

Cleida Alves Roy, aged 51, of Canterbury, CT, passed away on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, following a long illness. She leaves her husband, Robert W. Roy; her daughter, Alicia N. Roy; her son, Brandon Roy and his fiancée Caroline Windle; and her mother, Maria Alves Creusa. She also leaves her beloved extended Brazilian and American families including many sisters, brothers, in-laws, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father and two brothers.

Cleida was born in Santo Estevao-BA, Brazil, on September 28, 1971, and spent the first 23 years of her life there, living at home with her large Brazilian family, attending school, and earning a certificate for working with kindergarten children. She came to the United States to visit her sister, Katia, who had settled in Worcester, MA, and she attended classes at Quinsigamond Community College in order to learn English. Her path first crossed with that of her husband Rob when both were working the night shift at Morgan Construction in Worcester. Eventually the two married, and Cleida made the United States her permanent home and became a United States citizen.

Cleida was a bright light in this world with a lively personality and a big heart. She had a very strong work ethic and was a valuable employee wherever she worked, forming lifelong friendships along the way. For the last 18 years, she worked at the Lowe’s Home Improvement Distribution Center in Plainfield, CT. She loved to travel, and over the years she had explored many places both in the United States and in Europe. She was an avid reader and had developed close friendships with other readers and several authors. She loved music and dancing and was always ready to meet new people and to share her joy.

Most of all, Cleida loved her family. Her husband Rob and her two children, Alicia and Brandon, meant the world to her. They had her unconditional love and unwavering support, and she was proud of them and of all their accomplishments. She always held them close in her heart and was at her happiest when she could be with them.

A memorial service for Cleida will be held on Thursday, May 4th, 2023, at 11:00 am at The First Unitarian Church, 90 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608, followed by a reception at the church.
