Claudia McAuliffe Obituary

Claudia J. (Michalak) McAuliffe, 80, passed away peacefully on April 16th, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, after complications of a stroke.

She leaves her husband of 59 years Daniel J. McAuliffe, a son William McAuliffe and his wife Christine of North Brookfield, a daughter Karen Quinn and her husband Peter of Clinton and a son Michael McAuliffe of Cherry Valley, her brother Paul Michalak and his wife Barbara of Shrewsbury, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Corriveau, a brother Richard Michalak, a sister Barbara Michalak, a brother Thomas Michalak, and two grandchildren, Steven Spears and Emily Quinn.

Born in Worcester to Walter and Statia (Prostak) Michalak, she was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, class of 1961. She lived all her young life in Worcester and Shrewsbury until she met her husband-to-be at a traffic red light on route 9.

Claudia began her working career at the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company doing clerical work. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children grew into their late teen years. She then worked at Dodge Park Rest Home where she was a nurse's aide and finally concluded her working days at the former Wachusett Family Practice as a medical clerical Assistant.

In retirement, she loved to travel with her husband to such places as Alaska, Peru, Israel and on many cruises to the Caribbean. For the past ten years, it was wintering in Myrtle Beach, SC with several of her Massachusetts' friends and yearly acquaintances from the mid-west and Canada. Known as "Bapchi", she always enjoyed family get togethers where she got to see her beloved grand and great-grandchildren.
