Anthony “Tony” Schiavone (92) of Worcester passed away on April 1, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s surrounded by his family. Tony is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Mullin) Schiavone of Worcester and their children: Kathleen Staples and husband Dana of Marshfield and their son Nicholas; Michael Schiavone and his partner Angela Davia of Worcester and his children Danielle, Anthony and Ashley; Paul Schiavone and wife Cindy of Webster and their children Timothy and Haley; Kevin Schiavone and wife Beth of Boylston and their son William; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Tony was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Navy on board the USS Rushmore LSD #14. Tony was a proud veteran and could always be found wearing one of his Navy ball-caps, navy sweatshirts and camouflage clothing.
Tony worked at the Worcester Housing Authority for most of his career as the head carpenter/cabinet maker and locksmith until his retirement in 1995.
Tony was a self-made carpenter with a strong work ethic. He was forever doing projects at home and always available to help his children or friends. There was no job or task he wouldn’t or couldn't do.
After retirement, Betty and Tony loved to travel, visiting various countries in Europe and South America, as well as driving across the Continental U.S.
Tony loved his cars and had so many that we lost count, though his favorite was a 1948 Buick Roadmaster. Every car was his pride and joy, although they were quickly upgraded to the newest model.
For almost 30 years Tony and Betty were “snowbirds” spending the winters at their condo in Vero Beach, Florida. While in Florida they were members of the Italian/American club and spent every Friday evening there dining and dancing with friends. Tony also volunteered in the kitchen many nights cooking for dinners and assisting at all the Italian festivals. They were also members of the Vero Beach Veterans Club where Tony participated in many events.
The family would like to thank everyone at Oasis/Dodge Park for their care and support.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 7th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 8th, with a Mass at 11a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester, followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
