Andrew H. Creen, Jr., 71, of Worcester, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 100 (ish) years, Carol A. (Blackmer) Creen; four children, Caitlin (Creen) Naton and her husband Kyle, Andrew H. Creen III and his wife Ariel, Ryan Creen, and Christopher Creen; a sister Katherine Morocco and her husband Richard; three brothers, David Creen, Gerard Creen, and Michael Creen and his wife Ellen; his brother-in-law George Kasper and nieces Kristen (Kasper) Penn and Kimberly (Kasper) Carloni, and many other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful grandfather to Cora, Gus, and Maya Naton, as well as Andrew H. Creen IV (Drew), and Maxwell Creen (Max). He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family and always went out of his way to help with everything from childcare and rides to home projects.
Andy was born in Worcester, son of Andrew H. Creen Sr. and Rita (Sullivan) Creen and he lived in Worcester most of his life. He was a 1969 graduate of St. John's High School in Shrewsbury and earned a Bachelor in Science degree in 1973 from Worcester State University.
Andy had a long career in local government and real estate property appraisal. He worked for the City of Worcester, the MA Department of Revenue, and the City of Brookline before being hired in Woburn in 1988. He continued working there until he retired as the Chief Appraiser for the City of Woburn in 2019. He was an active member of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) for 38 years and was most recently awarded the Tony Trodella Award. He has been referred to as "the Michael Jordan of Real Estate Appraisal," which he loved. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and truly cared about his job, the City of Woburn, and the people who worked with him for so many years.
He continued to work part time in the Woburn office until just last week, when his ongoing illness required him to stay at home.
He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed visiting Ireland and flashing his EU passport. He took an interest in computers and technology and was always helping with IT fixes either at home or at work in Woburn. He enjoyed golfing with friends and family, especially during past "Creen Open" tournaments and the Irish Golf League at Wachusett Country Club. He was a fan of all sports at all levels and would happily watch anything from his grandchildren's t-ball games to the World Series.
Andy always had a great sense of humor and a calm, steady presence. He worked hard but never took himself too seriously. He was just the best.
